For 28 years, Erik Stancofski has been one of the most trusted names in surgery along the Delmarva Peninsula. Based in Lewes DE, he brings board-certified expertise, sincere warmth, and dedication to his patients to every procedure he performs.
Erik Stancofski has been part of the Lewes, DE, community since 1998. He co-founded Cape Surgical Associates in 2000 and spent nearly two decades building it into a respected practice before joining Beebe, where he eventually served as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery. Patients who come to Erik aren’t just getting a skilled surgeon; they’re getting someone who knows this community, has invested in it, and genuinely cares whether they walk out of the hospital better than when they came in.
Hernia and colorectal conditions are among the most common reasons people end up in a surgeon’s office, and few surgeons in the region have treated more of them than Erik Stancofski. Hernia repair, including umbilical hernia repair, is a core part of his practice, with hundreds of positive outcomes over the course of his career. His colorectal surgery work spans colon removal and colostomy procedures, performed with the kind of expert precision and human compassion that patients remember long after they’ve recovered.
Erik Stancofski’s surgical scope is broad, handling everything from straightforward cases to genuinely complex ones. His specialties include gallbladder conditions, hernia repairs, colorectal operations, and skin cancers, cysts, and tumors. One of the things he’s particularly proud of is his shift toward robotic surgery; he’s successfully transitioned a significant share of his practice to the robotic platform, giving patients access to minimally invasive techniques that mean smaller incisions, less pain, and a faster road back to normal life. He recently sat down with Beebe to talk through what that shift means for patients in a podcast worth a listen.
When he’s not operating on patients, Erik Stancofski is an avid swimmer, cyclist, and skier who loves staying active year-round. When the season’s right, you might even find him on his motorcycle. Last summer, he rode through multiple countries in Europe.
Travel is a big part of his life, shaped partly by where he came from. Erik grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, and trained at the American University of Beirut. He’s also a father of three kids who seem to have inherited his drive: one is finishing a PhD in school psychology, one wraps up medical school this spring, and the youngest is just starting. He was also a Rotary Club member in the early 2000s, which speaks to the kind of neighbor he’s always tried to be.
